We have one child who attended EW K through 5, another currently in 5, and another in 1st grade. We love East Ward. It feels like a big family. Young dynamic principal sets the tone. Couldn't be happier.

We love EW!! My daughter loves going to school. Her first grade teacher is simply amazing and is very personable. Her kindergarten teacher has been at the school for 15+ years. She was able to read half way through K. We were going to move, but after all of the amazing experiences at EW, the principal and all of the staff, looks like we will be staying here another 10 years so my youngest gets the same great experience as my oldest! I can't say enough positive things about this school. Being a teacher myself, I absolutely would love to work here as well!! Great staff, administration, home and school community and all the awesome events!! Love love love!!

We love East Ward! The Principal is very personable and approachable, and has answered all of my emails. My son is in first grade and his teacher is the perfect blend of loving and structured. He loves school b/c of her. She has been teaching for 18 years. His K teacher had been teaching for close to 25 years and was excellent academically. He was reading by the end of K and doing very well. The Home and School is very active and try hard to create a community. All the events we have attended have been great. My son wants to attend every event they host. We are very happy.

I have a 4th grader and a 1st grader at East Ward and my experience has been one filled with only positives. The teachers have been extraordinary and our "new" principal is wonderful. He knows how to communicate effectively with the teachers, parents and students. Our 4th grader is in the "DEEP" (gifted) program and looks forward to meeting the challenges that are given to him each week. Our 1st grader has gone from not wanting to go to school to getting up before I can even wake her so that she can get there! The Home and School and PTO are active and responsible for so many wonderful activities, fundraisers and special "treats" for the children! I highly recommend this school!

Very disappointing school (and Kindergarten teacher). Our son, who is a nice and smart boy that can read since he was 3 years old, always looks scared and frustrated, saying that everything he does is a "mistake" and "nothing is allowed". He has not learned much at school (his teacher even told us that he knows a lot more than most of his classmates), not to mention the rudeness of the secretary, who is one of the harshest people I have ever met.

Well the proof is in their test scores. Things have become all politics at that school and it's a shame because the kids there are not being held responsible for their behavior when their parents complain enough to get them off the hook. And it is a slippery slope that has left them with lower scores. My family has recently moved within the district to a new school and I am relieved to have the experience of the teachers, a warm and kind principal, well behaved children throughout the school with structure and a staff that cares about them all. You will not find those things at East Ward. I cannot guess as to why East Ward has gotten so out of control, it simply has.

We have been very disappointed with this school. The Kindergarten is focused on behavior and not academics. Children are not evaluated on any academic dimension until the 2nd trimester. While teachers are permitted to make changes to the K cirriculum, they are unwilling to modify the activities and topics to meet the needs of children who are advanced. This school emphasizes the individual student and individual programming in all of its literature, but fails to deliver on any of these promises. I attended this school 30 years ago and nothing with regards to the gifted program has changed. If your child is gifted, you should consider another school, if possilbe.

Good school. Kindergarten teachers are very good. Parents are only as involved as they want to be. You need to be sure to ask for feedback if you want it. It will not be volunteered.
